Counselling & Family Therapy
The Family Rooms offers tailored and creative therapy services to individuals, couples, and families. We are interested in understanding what matters to you and the hopes you have for life and your relationships, how you are responding to challenges that are getting in the way of these and discovering with you how you might take steps towards your preferred directions in life and with those you care about.
We specialise in supporting children, adolescents and their families as they navigate life’s challenges. In our work with families, we strive to adopt a playful approach to serious problems. This includes using music, art, craft, poetry, metaphor and/or other mediums in addition to talking if these are of interest to people and useful in ‘storying’ and making sense of experiences in life.
You might not be sure who should be coming to the first therapy appointment with you, whether you should be coming as a family, with a friend, on your own or as a couple. We can help you make this decision however often encourage families to come together and/or for people to come with safe and supportive others when this is appropriate and feels right to you.
Our fees for therapy vary depending on the service requested and range from $210 to $260 per 50 minute consultation. For more information about fees, insurance and medicare rebates please see our FAQs.
Cognitive & Psychometric Assessments
Davinia is experienced in cognitive and psychometric assessments with people from as young as 5 years through to adulthood. Davinia provides comprehensive assessments that shine a light on a person’s skills, uniqueness and strengths whilst also identifying areas of difficulty and/or vulnerability. She is highly skilled in operationalising psychological assessments by providing reports in plain language with clear, practical and creative recommendations to enable families, schools and other agencies to know how best to support young people in their care to thrive.
Davinia offers assessment and consultation in relation to Specific Learning Disorders (commonly known as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Dysgraphia), Intellectual Disability, Cognitive and Academic Giftedness and ADHD.
Typically, assessments involve an initial consultation to gather relevant information, two x 2-hour assessment sessions, consultations with relevant parties/further data collection, a comprehensive report and a feedback consultation. This process can be dependent upon the assessment required and will be discussed with you following your initial enquiry.
The cost of an assessment is dependent upon the nature of the assessment being sought, consultation required with external agencies (eg. schools and other professionals) and complexity of the circumstances. Assessment costs vary (on average) between $1,000 to $3,000.
